Outdoor Fly Fishing

Fly fishing is an ancient sport invented in the 19th century. This sport was established more for recreational purposes than for the purpose of catching fish for the fish marketing. Fly fishing uses an angling technique which is different from the traditional way of fishing and it is helpful in the catching of certain fish like trout and salmon. Outdoor fly fishing is enjoyed in the serene great outdoors. It has many therapeutic and relaxation benefits and it is gaining popularity as a great recreational sport. The flies are used on the anglers to attract the flies and help in easy catching.

Outdoor fly fishing can be of two types' dry flies and wet flies fishing. Dry flies need a floatant to enable them to sit on the surface of the water. Dry fly fishing is more common on moving or upstream water. Dry flies are helpful in letting the anglers know where the fish live in pools or water. Hence it becomes easier to detect the fish and catch them.

Wet flies are used on the anglers beneath the water surface. They are nymphs, lures and actually wet flies which are used in this kind of Outdoor fly fishing. Wet flies are just as good baits for the fish as dry flies except when there are too many weeds touching the surface of the water. In that case the wet flies will blend with the weeds and it becomes difficult to lure the fish with them.

Wet fly fishing is almost ineffective in areas where there are too many weeds touching the surface of the water. Dry fishing is more effective in such situations and as they stay inline on the surface of the water, they can detect the hiding spots of the fish and this becomes interesting to catch the fish.

Outdoor fly fishing gained such popularity and appreciation that it became a well played and watched sport. Many enthusiasts and fly fishing afficiados vouch for fly fishing as an interesting as well as relaxing sport. There are many parts of the world which are perfect for fly fishing and there are even tournaments held for outdoor fly fishing like in the waters of Catskill Mountains in New York and some places in Colorado, Montana, Wyoming, British Columbia and California.

Outdoor fly fishing has grown in popularity since its establishment and it contributes quite a bit to the revenue generated by outdoor fishing sport tournaments.
