Outdoor Climbing Wall

Climbing is a great way to remain fit and also provides excitement and a sense of achievement when you conquer a summit. As we know the majority of people are not fortunate enough to go on regular climbing trips or have a mountain or a hill nearby. The answer to this is an artificial outdoor climbing wall. The first such idea was implemented in UK somewhere in 1964 and since that time people have innovated the design and structure of the outdoor climbing wall to make it as realistic as possible.

The outdoor climbing wall will basically teach you how to do rock climbing. This is an artificial wall made from different materials, which has protrusions which serve as grips for grabbing and for leveraging the body up with your feet, just like you would do when you were climbing a hill or a mountain without a rope.

The surface of the outdoor climbing wall is made to look as though it was a huge rock. People use different materials in constructing the outdoor climbing wall. The simplest one is made of Plywood and has the grips screwed on to it. This will provide you with a straight vertical climb and you might miss out on the feeling of attempting an actual rock climb. The other types of outdoor climbing walls use granite slabs, a wire mesh construction with concrete sprayed on it, panels of fiberglass or with panels of aluminum or steel.

Outdoor climbing walls are a unique way of learning rock climbing and these walls have different routes ranging from the ones meant for the novice to the ones which are extremely difficult and will prove a challenge to the experienced climber. These routes are usually charted out by the different coloring used for the grips and you are required to use the grips only of that color. Sometimes colored tape is also used to indicate the different routes and difficulty levels. These routes are charted out by the builder and the gradation of the difficulty is given after people have tried the routes.

Many of the outdoor climbing walls look like the bare side of a rocky mountain. Due to the materials available today you can make a wall with the exact texture of rock and also shape the wall to have the different protrusions and shapes which you can see on an actual rock face.
